As a U.S. Department of State Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program alumnus, I believe in the power of cross-cultural collaboration and understanding. I’m proud to lead Action for Community Resilience Group in implementing a project funded by the U.S. Embassy Sierra Leone’s Public Diplomacy Small Grants Program. This initiative fosters the exchange of ideas, perspectives, and collaboration between students in Sierra Leone and the United States, creating a platform for meaningful connections and shared learning. Pioneering Research for a Sustainable Future
Action for Community Resilience Group, with funding from Chatham House Sustainability Accelerator, is launching a research initiative
to find an environmentally suitable and resilient model for repurposing plastic waste into pavement bricks. 🚮➡️🧱
This project is designed to move plastics away from landfills and waterways, addressing the harmful impacts of plastic waste on our environment. By transforming this waste into durable, eco-friendly building materials, we will not only reduce pollution but also create new opportunities for sustainable infrastructure and green business opportunities for youths through.🌱🏙️
The Impact? Cleaner cities, reduced landfill pressure, protection of waterways, and a circular economy that turns waste into value. The bricks can be used in community development, road construction, and more—all while decreasing plastic waste!
We’re calling on corporate bodies, investors, and sustainability advocates to join us in scaling this effort. Your support can help close the gaps in waste management and lead to a greener, more resilient Sierra Leone. U.S. Embassy Freetown, Sierra Leone UNDP in Sierra Leone DR.
