Meeting with several key figures at Njala University

Today, the Action for Community Resilience Group (ACRG), led by its Co-founder and President, Allieu Christopher Moiwa, met with several key figures at Njala University. The attendees included the Vice-Chancellor and Principal (VC&P), the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Njala Campus, the Deputy Registrar of Njala Campus, the University Registrar, and the Finance Director. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the scalability of the plastic waste-to-pavement bricks initiative.

Allieu Christopher Moiwa, who is also the project lead, was accompanied by the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Student Representative Council (SRC), the President of the Sierra Leone Debating Council (SLDC), a representative of Njala University Volunteers (NUV), and other student volunteers. The team presented the initiative and proposed a formal partnership between NUV, ACRG, and the university administration to institutionalize and expand the project for the benefit of the university community and beyond.

The VC&P commended the students, describing them as outstanding representatives of the university’s vision for innovation and sustainability. Recognizing the urgent need for such initiatives, he called for the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and a comprehensive proposal that integrates the plastic waste-to-bricks venture and a biomass initiative. He assured the team of his commitment to support the projects and mobilize funding as a matter of priority.

The initiative, funded by Chatham House’s Sustainability Accelerator, aims to develop sustainable, eco-friendly solutions to address plastic waste while contributing to environmental conservation. The meeting underscored the administration’s support for student-led projects that tackle pressing global and local challenges.
